Manufacturing speed and innovative designs are two crucial issues mattering whether a manufacturer can lead the mobile market or not. Therefore, mobile phone manufacturers have put considerable efforts in accelerating the product developing process, including introduce 3D scanners into the prototyping and quality control stages as to speed up the overall manufacture process significantly.
Comparing with CMM or microscope measuring methods, 3D scanner obtains much more data at a much faster speed. Typically for each scan shot, a 3D scanner acquires 3D information of 2 ~ 5 million points of the object, and based on the this information, professional inspections such as distortion analysis, distance measurement, and so on, can be carried out automatically in an inspection software. In this way, the overall cost can be noticeable cut down by simplifying and shortening the entire designing process and skipping trial and error stages. Moreover, even free form surfaces of the object can be inspected as well, which also contributes in improving both objects¡¯ exterior and interior quality.
Mount Rexcan III into ARX 300
  The key to the quality inspection is R&R of the data, and when Rexcan III is working with ARX 300, due to the fully automated scanning process, R&R (reliability and repeatability) of the scan data is improved considerably by removing human interruptions even with different operators, therefore it was using by many mobile phone manufacturers nowadays. Additionally, the scanning process has also been simplified in this way, thus the measuring time is reduced as well.
Fix the object on ARX 300¡¯s jig
  Fixing the object on ARX 300¡¯s jig is a very simple process, however, since the jig¡¯s frame information has already been stored in the PC, scan data of the entire object (top & bottom, upper & downer, Front & rear, etc.) can be aligned accurately and automatically. Moreover, targets on the object are no longer needed, which means no missing point anymore
Load scan path
  With ARX 300, scanning processes are implemented automatically along a pre-set or customized scan path, which can be created, edited, saved, or used even for similar shaped objects.

  Start the auto-scan process along the loaded scan path. Moreover, with synchronized object and model viewing windows, you can always observe missing areas on the 3D model and take extra scan shots to implement them directly.
Scan data post-processing - ¡®Batch processing¡¯ function
  With the ¡®Batch processing¡¯ function in ezScan2006, scan patches will be aligned automatically in a very precise way, and then merged into a single triangular mesh.
Distortion of components
  Differences between the CAD design data and scan data will be indicated with colors after the inspection software aligns 2 data sets together: excessive areas will be shown in red, and short areas will be shown in blue. Moreover, distortion reports are also available.
 
Assemble features
  Previously, measurements and inspections of assembly features, such as hole positions, plate shapes, patterns, were carried out by CMM, which was extremely time consuming and expensive. But now with Rexcan III, more specifically its image acquiring capability, such tasks can be finished in a much more efficient way.
Dimensions
  In this application, the focus is verification of mobile phone¡¯s length and width, which is very important and used to be measured with rulers manually. Now Rexcan can improve this procedure both in time and precision terms significantly.
